Gary Halcomb

Mr. Halcomb was here last week for gas trying to get to Ohio, but now he is still in town.  He says he needs money to pay his insurance.  We gave him a gas card last week and can help him with food, but can anyone else help him get on his way?  He is living in his van.

Riding a bicycle from Champaign to Oklahoma.  Saw Dr. Moore today and doctor told him to rest.  We are trying to get him a room for the night.  Anyone else able to help?

We have had numerous requests for gas cards.  Here are the ones we gave today.
Lori Rubsam had an appointment at Wash U in St. Louis on September 12
Eugene & Betty Bunting were going to Sarah Bush to have Eugene's stitches removed
Jennifer Randall is getting kicked out of the motel she lives in ....pregnant....has an appointment at CEFS in the a.m. to hopefully get rent money for the hotel.

David Peters came in saying they have been over multiple states looking for homeless shelters. They have 2 boys. From Carlinville. Going to Missouri. Have been staying in Greenup. Told him he has received help from numerous agencies in town and other neighboring communities so can't get anymore help. He said they were going to Missouri today.

His wife left a message, asking for a hotel room on a Sunday night.  Monday she called from Terre Haute saying they had been given the name of a shelter there, but the shelter had bed bugs and they would not stay there with 2 young boys.  David came to us for a gas voucher.  He is waiting on disability payment.  We gave them a bag of groceries and $15 gas voucher.

Shelter brought him in. Said he was from Anderson, IN, and wife took everything. Heading to Houston, TX, to settle dad's estate. Gave bus ticket to Mt. Vernon, IL. Call if want more info.

Was hanging out at library. They sent him over to us to see if we could get him to Texas. We cannot help because we helped him last year. Said he was going to Texas and last year he was coming from Texas.

Martey & Jody Larimer

Both had been to clinic.  Martey has bronchitis.  Gave them a room for one night at Abe Lincoln.  Now they said they have a job on a dairy farm near Teutopolis, so they just needed a room before they get their paycheck.  WILL NOT HELP WITH A ROOM OR GAS AGAIN.  Just food from the food pantry.  Said they were not allowed to stay at the free shelter outside of Effingham.

He was dropped off at our door by Enduring Freedom Ministries. He said he was from Champaign, but coming from Indianapolis and going to Arizona. We are helping with a train ticket to Chicago because he has resources there to help him get where he is going. The train doesn't leave until 5:42 p.m.

Called to ask for a motel room for the night.  He said he was waiting for a family member to pick him up to take him home to North Carolina. When he came in, his ID showed an Effingham address.  We did not help him, due to having a local address.

Came in wanting gas. Coming from Tennessee, going to California (San Francisco). Said he was here before but didn't come to township. We helped with 5 gallon gas voucher. Wanted hotel room also but we don't help with that. Said he would go to Catholic Charities. Said they stayed at Econo Lodge previously. Driving a nice large white van.

Martey came in asking for food.  He said he and his brother were homeless.  Gave a bag of groceries.  Will not help with gas or lodging, but we have food pantry to help with food.  There was a voucher in the bag for Save A Lot.

JODI LARIMAR

Jodie came after church services on December 24th and received a gas card. THEN the following Friday he and his brother were WALKING around town trying to get $20 to stay at the Effingham Motel. Why were they walking if they needed a gas card on the 24th?  We are speculating that he SOLD the gas card to get enough money to spend a night at the motel. We will not help again.
