John Buchholtz stopped by Sacred Heart Church at 2:20pm today wanting help with food.  He mentioned that Salvation Army has already helped him with lodging.  He said that he would be leaving town in the morning.  We did not provide any help today.
We also have a record of helping him on January 19, 2010 with a meal at Subway.

Jody Larimer from Effingham called to request assistance for Satisha Hill (St. Louis) for a night lodging.  She had surgery on her finger and was dismissed from the hospital.  Jody paid for last night but he can't afford another night and he cannot let her stay with him either. Her mom is to pick her up on Friday. Sacred Heart helped Jody on 6-28-10 with gas and Satisha Hill with 2 meals on 9-1-09.  We did not provide assistance.

I gave a ride to Mr. Bochholtz from the Effingham Motel to Burger King on Tuesday (January 11) morning.  He told me that St. Anthony had given him lodging and a food voucher for Burger King.  When I saw him come out of the motel room, I immediately recognized him as an individual that I had helped before.  I had given him a meal at Niemerg’s and taken him to Wal-Mart to buy him tv dinners.  I am not sure of the timing on that incident.  It has been at least a year.  He told me that he was from Pennsylvania headed to Oklahoma to look for a job.  The story sounds strangely similar to what he had told me on the first occasion when we met.  On the first occasion, he showed up at our Wednesday night service and we fed him supper.  He did stay for Bible study at that time.  Sounds like Effingham is a regular stop on his journeys.

Mr. Buchholtz's story to St Anthony's was he had been to Marion for a VA visit and was heading home.  We do have a photo id on a vet’s card.  He did not want a bus ticket to Terre Haute because it would be late getting in and not a good neighborhood.  He is marked do not help for one year on our card.  Letting us know his travel pattern is very helpful.

Robert West from CEFS called. They have three single people that are looking for homeless shelter NOW.  They will be able to give aid to one but not the other two and are requesting assistance from churches and organizations.  If you are able to help call him at 347-7514 or send email to rwest@cefseoc.org.  (Note:  he has asked to be included in our email list for notification, too).
